Memory Lane Meets the Future of Work Skills Ontario!
Throwback to my high school days, two years deep into 'Shops' class. While I eventually pivoted to business, the skills I garnered stayed with me for life. From car repairs to DIY home improvements, I’ve passed those hands-on skills down to my own kids.
Fast forward to this past week at the Skills Ontario Competition, where over 30,000 students, educators, and industry partners came together to celebrate the next generation of skilled talent. From cybersecurity to game design, robotics to culinary arts, it’s clear that career pathways have evolved and expanded.
In the U.S., these disciplines fall under CTE – Career & Technical Education, a term that, I believe, better reflects the diversity and prestige of these fields, helping remove outdated stigmas around the skilled trades. Perhaps it's time we rebrand in Canada too?
I'm planning to collaborate on a podcast series spotlighting these transformative career opportunities that didn’t exist “back in my day.”
Let’s reimagine what success looks like one skill at a time! Great to connect with STEM guru STAO's executive director, Nathalie Rudner. Watch for podcast highlights in the
Shoutout to these incredible competitors and event organizers, your passion and teamwork are inspiring! The icing on the cake, Ontario Investing $1 Billion in Skills Development Fund. RM |
